A Shot Glass of Recovery
An odd name for a podcast on Recovery? When I was wondering what to call this podcast I reflected back on my drinking history and how I used alcohol and drugs as a Solution to my thinking, my problems, my very existence in general...I always reached for that shot glass of solution. But when the glasses were empty and the bottles ran dry the solution I’d used for decades had only made things worse. I’ve been on this recovery road for a little over 19 years now and what I’ve learned is my recovery is contingent on carrying the message to others. I hope you sit back and enjoy listening to the speaker series I’ve curated from my home group AA Solution Seekers. Perhaps when you feel most alone, in need of company or a positive message, you will join me as I share some of the wisdom the folks in recovery have shared with me over the years. This podcast is just recycled feedback from the rooms of recovery. Thank you for listening and helping me stay sober one day at a time.

Hi, I'm Lisa, and welcome to a Shotglass of Recovery. In this episode, we dive into one of Bill Wilson's profound letters published in The Grapevine in January 1958, titled "The Next Frontier: Emotional Sobriety." Join me as I read and reflect on Bill's insights about emotional maturity and balance, drawn from his own experiences and struggles in early sobriety.
We'll explore the challenges faced by long-time AA members who, despite achieving sobriety, often still grapple with emotional well-being. Bill Wilson's candid discussion on the necessity of ongoing spiritual and emotional work highlights the importance of humility, self-awareness, and the continuous effort to overcome dependencies and unrealistic demands on others.
Listen in as I share personal anecdotes and insights, emphasizing the significance of maintaining emotional sobriety through the principles of AA and the teachings of the 12 Steps. This episode is a heartfelt reminder that true recovery involves not just abstaining from alcohol, but also achieving peace and balance within oneself.

Welcome to "Shotglass of Recovery" for August 16th, hosted by Lisa. In this episode, Lisa shares her recent experience with a unique challenge she posed to her sponsees in Alcoholics Anonymous.
Lisa emphasizes the importance of vulnerability in the recovery process, describing the "Vulnerability Challenge" where participants are encouraged to share daily readings from AA-approved or AA-adjacent literature. She highlights how these simple yet profound practices can foster trust and connection within the group.
Through a thought-provoking quote by Dorothy Fosdick, Lisa reflects on the essence of AA: "simple but not easy." She draws parallels between the basic principles taught in AA and the fundamental lessons from kindergarten, stressing the importance of implementing these simple ideas in everyday life despite the challenges.
Join Lisa as she navigates the complexities of recovery, shares her personal insights, and offers guidance on how to live life on life's terms. Tune in for a dose of inspiration and encouragement in your own recovery journey.

I met Pax at a group in the United Kingdom called One Day at a Time. He is one of those guys you instantly like. Full of laughter and warmth.
And then you hear his story.
Prepare to believe in miracles again!

Today we talk about sex!
We also answer some of those age old questions in A.A, such as "When can I date?" (safely? probably never, have you seen your track record?) and "How do I make an amends to 100 nameless one night stands?" (you are not kidding anyone.)
Join us for these answers and more ...in this episode on the SEX inventory.

When I went to Maine to speak at their 45th Annual Round up, I had no idea how many gifts I was about to receive.
I met beautiful, sweet, soulful Mel who made this trip happen and was the organizer extraordinaire. Mel is like me in that she wears her emotions on her sleeve and is always ready for a hug.
Their was my grand sponsee, Rena. One tough cookie on the outside but inside, so deeply grateful to be one of, a part of the tribe. She just walked around soaking it all up like a sponge.
Rena's Sponsor and my sponsee Tricia. Who in spite of her fear of the outdoors, braved Maine to come hang with us all. She brings the light and laughter wherever she goes and I'm better for having met her.
Then there is April, my shy sponsee who was so nervous I had to ask her if she wanted to ask me to be her sponsor? How does she survive New York?! April is another sweet, kind being who just oozed gratitude in the whole 12 hours she was with us. That's right she drove up Saturday night. I'm so glad God deemed us destined to meet.
Finally, I got to meet my newest Sponsor, Miss Stacey...in PERSON.
I feel like I'm blessed to be in the presence of what I consider AA royalty (I winced when I typed that cuz she'd probably smack me and say "don't put anyone on a pedestal but God.")
She is warm, kind, the most amazing listener and makes me feel like I am the most important person in the room when we talk. She
is the mother I always wished I had. (Even if that would make me Steve Martin in The Jerk).
The conference was great, but meeting these women in person was Gods true gift.

A Shot Glass of Recovery
A Shot Glass of Recovery is Lisa’s solo venture after departing from her popular 100, 000 listening audience on 2 Sober Chicks. Her dear sober friend with whom she created a podcast in 2017 suffered a traumatic event and together they decided to end 2 Sober Chicks. Perhaps, one day they will podcast together again should they meet on the road to happy destiny once more. One can hope. There is always hope.
’Til then, Lisa has decided to light another candle in the dark world of Alcoholism & Addiction.
One for the Road? We never said, “No!” to that before, so why not take me along on your drive to work, walk in the park, or next road trip?
A Shot Glass of Recovery is a twist on an old solution made new, just like her journey in recovery made her feel whole at last.
