A Shot Glass of Recovery

An odd name for a recovery podcast? Absolutely. But if you knew my drinking history, it would make perfect sense. For years, I used alcohol and drugs as a solution—to my thinking, my problems, and honestly, to life itself. Whenever things got uncomfortable, confusing, or required feelings, I reached for a shot glass full of “solution.”

Spoiler alert: when the glasses were empty and the bottles ran dry, that solution had only made everything worse.

I’ve been on this recovery road for a little over 20 years now, and here’s what I’ve learned: the only way I get to keep what I have is by giving it away—preferably without a hangover.

This podcast is a speaker series curated from my home group, AA Solution Seekers. It’s recycled wisdom, borrowed experience, and feedback straight from the rooms of recovery. So if you’re feeling alone, looking for company, or just need a positive message that doesn’t come with bad advice or worse decisions, pull up a chair and listen in.

Thanks for being here, for listening, and for helping me stay sober—one day at a time.

Keep Coming Back!

Lisa

In this powerful and deeply moving episode, Claudia D. shares her courageous journey from the grips of alcoholism to the freedom of recovery. When I first met Claudia, she was a quiet observer at Alcoholics Anonymous meetings, but that changed when she asked me to sponsor her.
Claudia’s story goes beyond recovery from alcohol; it’s a tale of resilience against manipulation and abuse. While AA offers a life-saving solution to alcoholism, Claudia bravely sheds light on a darker side—the predators who exploit vulnerable members in the program. She recounts her experience with an online group (originally it was called The Joy of Living out of Texas, but eventually that group would kick this predator out. Sadly he just started another online hunting ground called..), “A New Happiness,” run by a manipulative individual by the name of Richard and his enablers, and her ultimate triumph over their toxic influence.
Through her faith in a higher power and the principles of AA, Claudia not only found recovery from the disease of alcoholism but also reclaimed her life from the grips of deceit and control of a sick man.
This episode is a must-listen for anyone seeking hope, healing, and a reminder of the strength it takes to overcome not only addiction but the harmful actions of others.

If you or anyone you know in A.A. is getting mixed messages remember some of our famous slogans "secrets keep us sick". Alcoholics Anonymous has amazing resources on the world service website www.aa.org where you can find a helpful pamphlet on What Sponsorship is and ISN'T. If a sponsor tells you to keep something secret, that's a sign something is wrong, trust your gut, speak up, change sponsors and find another group. And remember that Anonymity is not a cloak that covers unsafe or illegal behaviour, read the aa Safety Card for more info.

This episode sounds like we are in a hall...because we were in a party room together and online!
We picked up where we left off talking about Step 10 and Step 11. Today we are on page 86 half way down the page it begins "On awakening..".  The beautiful essence of Step 10 and 11 is that we are developing a daily conscious contact with a power greater than ourselves. When we tap into this never ending resource of ultimate power, we can meet any challenge and face life's demands and remain sober and emotionally balanced.

I thought I would share some of the simple prayers that can be found right in the Big Book and the Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions. I also share a few others that have helped me along the way.

The bottom line in my recovery is this...God is either everything or God is nothing....which is it? I had to make a decision. Was I willing to believe or not. This is what they call the turning point, the jumping off place. I can't really move forward until I take this step.

I went from disbelief to belief with the act of willingness. I started to pray long before I believed in anything. I just knew, my way had not been working.

I hope this helps you.

Love and Light

A Shot Glass of Recovery

A Shot Glass of Recovery is Lisa’s solo venture after departing from her popular 100, 000 listening audience on 2 Sober Chicks. Her dear sober friend with whom she created a podcast in 2017 suffered a traumatic event and together they decided to end 2 Sober Chicks.  Perhaps,  one day they will podcast together again should they meet on the road to happy destiny once more. One can hope. There is always hope.

’Til then, Lisa has decided to light another candle in the dark world of Alcoholism & Addiction.

One for the Road? We never said, “No!” to that before, so why not take me along on your drive to work, walk in the park, or next road trip?

A Shot Glass of Recovery is a twist on an old solution made new, just like her journey in recovery made her feel whole at last.
