A Shot Glass of Recovery
An odd name for a podcast on Recovery? When I was wondering what to call this podcast I reflected back on my drinking history and how I used alcohol and drugs as a Solution to my thinking, my problems, my very existence in general...I always reached for that shot glass of solution. But when the glasses were empty and the bottles ran dry the solution I’d used for decades had only made things worse. I’ve been on this recovery road for a little over 19 years now and what I’ve learned is my recovery is contingent on carrying the message to others. I hope you sit back and enjoy listening to the speaker series I’ve curated from my home group AA Solution Seekers. Perhaps when you feel most alone, in need of company or a positive message, you will join me as I share some of the wisdom the folks in recovery have shared with me over the years. This podcast is just recycled feedback from the rooms of recovery. Thank you for listening and helping me stay sober one day at a time.

When I went to Maine to speak at their 45th Annual Round up, I had no idea how many gifts I was about to receive.
I met beautiful, sweet, soulful Mel who made this trip happen and was the organizer extraordinaire. Mel is like me in that she wears her emotions on her sleeve and is always ready for a hug.
Their was my grand sponsee, Rena. One tough cookie on the outside but inside, so deeply grateful to be one of, a part of the tribe. She just walked around soaking it all up like a sponge.
Rena's Sponsor and my sponsee Tricia. Who in spite of her fear of the outdoors, braved Maine to come hang with us all. She brings the light and laughter wherever she goes and I'm better for having met her.
Then there is April, my shy sponsee who was so nervous I had to ask her if she wanted to ask me to be her sponsor? How does she survive New York?! April is another sweet, kind being who just oozed gratitude in the whole 12 hours she was with us. That's right she drove up Saturday night. I'm so glad God deemed us destined to meet.
Finally, I got to meet my newest Sponsor, Miss Stacey...in PERSON.
I feel like I'm blessed to be in the presence of what I consider AA royalty (I winced when I typed that cuz she'd probably smack me and say "don't put anyone on a pedestal but God.")
She is warm, kind, the most amazing listener and makes me feel like I am the most important person in the room when we talk. She
is the mother I always wished I had. (Even if that would make me Steve Martin in The Jerk).
The conference was great, but meeting these women in person was Gods true gift.

I am grateful for my past experience and ability to be able to speak off the cuff straight from the heart. I'm grateful for my sponsor Luke who one time ripped up my cue cards right before my talk and said "This isn't a speech! We speak from the heart. Why do you need notes? Don't you know your own story?"
I'm grateful people find something to resonate with and keep asking me to travel to their locations to do what I believe God wants us all to day, carry the message of Hope by sharing our stories of recovery in Alcoholics Anonymous.
I'm grateful that on this invitation I got to speak in front of a 1000 fellow AA'ers and amongst them was my sponsor, a Sponsee, a grand Sponsee and a dear friend all who travelled separately to join me in Maine so that we could meet in person for the very first time!!!
I was caught off when the chair person told me just before I began, that I'd have to cut my talk by 15 minutes. So it took me a while to get my brain on track...but eventually God stepped in and lead me to the finish.
I hope you find some Hope in there.

I always try to share my experience with newcomers, especially about how I didn't know how prejudiced and closed minded I was when it came to things "religious".
Most importantly I needed to look at myself and take inventory on such behaviours in order to get and stay sober.
One of the tools I used in the expansion of my mind and the opening of my heart was a meeting lead by a guy named Craig from an AA group called Primetime.
They dissect the Lords' Prayer. I needed to make use of what religious people had to offer instead of being angry at the imperfections or downfalls of the humans who saw "half assing" their religious tenets and in my opinion failing miserably at it!
So I went to this meeting and it really helped me.

I do a chat group with 9 women and our latest thing is reading something from our Recovery/Spiritual Toolkits (Big Book, 12&12, Grapevine, Daily Reflections, any thing AA related), sharing it with each other and then Sharing ourselves with the group by way of speaking on what the reading meant to us.
This was part of our recent discussion.
What do you talk about with your friends? How do you support your sisters?
When you share is the thought "how can I best serve God and others?".

Just one of the many gifts of a worldwide pandemic....was meeting people like Jolie from a part of my own Country I'd never visited. Jolie's sobriety date is close to one I gave up for "outside issues", it's amazing what EGO can take from us...sobriety, peace, joy, presence.
I'm glad she got it when she did and shared her journey and experience to where she is at today.
I love that she talked about what she called "drybriety" because it is definitely a part of our recovery journey that is not talked about enough!
I've seen people with 20, 30 years sobriety behave completely against any principles that they tout in their shares about sobriety and recovery. Principles such as tolerance, patience, forgiveness, humility, letting go and letting God. When someone talks of those principles but leaves a home group in a huff because they took offence to something, that's a perfect example of Dry-briety. Saying we trust in God but only of course until something bad, challenging or unexpected happens, then they cry out, "why me god?". Dry-briety.
Jolie has got what I want. SOBRIETY and principles.
A Shot Glass of Recovery
A Shot Glass of Recovery is Lisa’s solo venture after departing from her popular 100, 000 listening audience on 2 Sober Chicks. Her dear sober friend with whom she created a podcast in 2017 suffered a traumatic event and together they decided to end 2 Sober Chicks. Perhaps, one day they will podcast together again should they meet on the road to happy destiny once more. One can hope. There is always hope.
’Til then, Lisa has decided to light another candle in the dark world of Alcoholism & Addiction.
One for the Road? We never said, “No!” to that before, so why not take me along on your drive to work, walk in the park, or next road trip?
A Shot Glass of Recovery is a twist on an old solution made new, just like her journey in recovery made her feel whole at last.
