A Shot Glass of Recovery
An odd name for a podcast on Recovery? When I was wondering what to call this podcast I reflected back on my drinking history and how I used alcohol and drugs as a Solution to my thinking, my problems, my very existence in general...I always reached for that shot glass of solution. But when the glasses were empty and the bottles ran dry the solution I’d used for decades had only made things worse. I’ve been on this recovery road for a little over 19 years now and what I’ve learned is my recovery is contingent on carrying the message to others. I hope you sit back and enjoy listening to the speaker series I’ve curated from my home group AA Solution Seekers. Perhaps when you feel most alone, in need of company or a positive message, you will join me as I share some of the wisdom the folks in recovery have shared with me over the years. This podcast is just recycled feedback from the rooms of recovery. Thank you for listening and helping me stay sober one day at a time.

Smiling Jeff. Always sits in a meeting smiling. Not once have I ever seen this man without a smile on his face during a meeting that talks about the program of action and recovery.
From an environment deprived of emotional balance, this alcoholic sought a release at a young age and most specifically a geographical cure.
From that to a peaceful and forgiving person, sits Smiling Jeff.

Miss Melvina is a regular participant at a New York meeting called Jamaica Presentation. She has 27 years of sobriety at the time of this recording in 2024.
She focuses on the grace of God instilling in her the desire and want to still be here in the center of Alcoholics Anonymous, because she did NOT come here to stop drinking! She wanted to try and control it.
Aren't us alcoholics just like that.

Chris talks about not believing at first that he was an alcoholic and how his sponsor was putting in more work than he was. Then he surrendered.

I was asked to speak in the U.K. at a meeting online and in it they ask for 1 line or paragraph from the big book. I have many favorites but they needed a line immediately so i dropped the book open and read where my gaze landed.
It was page 559 and the line "Above all, we reject fantasizing and accept reality." Just another fantastic summary of what A.A. has taught me. Be here now, where your feet are is where your mind should be. Stop living in the past, or planning out elaborate revenge fantasies for those imagined or actual wrong doings of others. Stop daydreaming and fantasizing about your future and start taking steps to build it. Find what is good in this moment, this marriage, this friendship, this job...right now. Be grateful and live this life to the fullest.
We always cry when we are new, "Turn my will and my life over to God? What then will become of me?" Action is your opportunity to practice autonomy in your life, the difference today is I seek counsel from a Higher Power first, then I take action. I no longer re-act to the perceived wrong doings of others, I ask God to direct my thinking so that it be devoid of self-pity, anger, resentment, selfish, self-seeking behaviours and motives.
If you haven't tried it, what are you waiting for? The consequences of our thoughtless actions of the past have probably piled up around you. If you want that to change you have to change yourself. I couldn't do it alone, I needed help.
May you find that help now. Here's a secret, just ask.
Love and Freedom,
Lisa M.

Keith and I met in another online meeting. We both left for similar reasons - choosing peace and not wanting to be part of chaos today.
He is an example of how far you can come and a short amount of time when you focus on the solution of AA.

Yvonne recently told me that she thought I didn't like her at first but has realized it was all in her head. I said "Aren't us alcoholics just like that", because haven't I done just the same thing a hundred times if I've done it once.
My mind makes shit up. It tells me I'm less than all the time. It says I need to compete with you instead of be compassionate towards you. It tells me there is only one spot at the top and it better be mine, which leaves me feeling sad and sorry for myself if you get top spot. That leaves me with envy, jealousy and self pity when I could have been filled with support, love, celebration of others and sisterhood.
The alcoholic mind is funny...thank God I am not the only one!

Roy P. May 3rd, 1982 - This next guy is a real gentleman and I'm sad I don't see him around anymore. When I met him he had 40 years of sobriety and I loved his calming presence when he shared in a group.
A Shot Glass of Recovery
A Shot Glass of Recovery is Lisa’s solo venture after departing from her popular 100, 000 listening audience on 2 Sober Chicks. Her dear sober friend with whom she created a podcast in 2017 suffered a traumatic event and together they decided to end 2 Sober Chicks. Perhaps, one day they will podcast together again should they meet on the road to happy destiny once more. One can hope. There is always hope.
’Til then, Lisa has decided to light another candle in the dark world of Alcoholism & Addiction.
One for the Road? We never said, “No!” to that before, so why not take me along on your drive to work, walk in the park, or next road trip?
A Shot Glass of Recovery is a twist on an old solution made new, just like her journey in recovery made her feel whole at last.
