I had the honor and privilege of being asked to speak at the 2024 S.U.S conference in Puerto Vallarta Mexico this year. Afterwards, when I stood in a receiving line of what seemed like a 100 or more people, so many relating childhood trauma stories of their own, I felt those words of wisdom my sponsor said to me all those years ago had really come true.  I had asked him after completing my fifth step "..but why did all those bad things have to happen to me?".  His response did not come from him, as most of the most profound things we say never do, it came from some place greater but through him to my heart...he paused and said  "I don't know Lis. Maybe the only reason any of those things happened was so that you could one day show others, that no matter what happened in your past, you can live sober in the present and finally be free no matter what.". 

I've carried that hope with me for years and I open all my talks with something similar, I ask the God of my understanding, to speak through me to whoever needs to hear a message of healing and hope. My hope is for them to hear through my experience, and to know from this moment forward that no matter your trauma, no matter your past, you can recover, you can live sober, happy and finally be free from the bondage of your past.

 

I thought this speaker tape a good one to start my latest podcast with, a vulnerable place, a space for you to get to know me.
