Episode Title: Henry O

Henry O got sober in 2005 and has been active in Alcoholics Anonymous ever since. He has a sponsor—who knows he is his sponsor—he sponsors other men, and he carries the AA message inside prison walls.

Originally from Dublin, Ireland, Henry now lives in Warrington, UK. As a young lad, he was caught drinking at a school dance. In an attempt to teach him a lesson about the dangers of alcohol, his father took him to the pub the following week, making him drink one-for-one with him. Henry swore he’d never drink again—but as the hangover faded, excitement for the next pub visit took its place. His father’s plan had backfired.

Today, Henry speaks about the mental twist and blank spot that every alcoholic experiences. He shares his journey from loss and incomprehensible demoralization to living sober, recovered, and free—a changed man, thanks to Alcoholics Anonymous.
