In this deeply personal episode, Lisa sits down to process a heavy emotional day — from watching her 90-year-old father decline, to confronting the resurfacing of childhood trauma, and the silence that still surrounds it. As a daughter, a survivor, and a woman in long-term recovery, Lisa shares the hard truths about family dynamics, feeling unheard, and finding healing through action, honesty, and connection.
This isn’t just a story of pain — it’s a message of hope: no matter what you’ve been through, you can recover.

Hey there, I'm Lisa, and welcome to "A Shotglass of Recovery." Whether you're back again or finding us for the first time, thank you so much for joining me. It's been quite a ride, hasn't it? In today's episode, I'm reaching out from my cozy corner in Toronto, Canada, sharing a very personal journey that digs deep into family dynamics, old wounds, and the road to recovery.

Life sure has its bumps, and today I'm feeling those bumps in a big way. But I've learned one thing: talking helps. Sharing my story with you makes it just a bit lighter, and maybe it'll resonate with something you're going through. So, today, I'm opening up about my past, my struggles with grief, and facing the harsh realities of growing older.

My dad is 90, and watching him change has been tough. The strong, steady man I knew is showing signs of decline, and it breaks my heart. I've also been brave enough to tell my sister the deeper truths of my childhood; it's like airing out a wound to let the healing begin.

Recovery isn't just about quitting alcohol or drugs. It’s about facing those demons head-on, finding a voice for the voiceless parts of your past, and learning that you’re not alone. Together, with the help of a fantastic community, good old-fashioned sharing, and taking one step at a time, we can heal.

So let's chat, let's connect, and let's support each other on this journey. Send me your thoughts, your stories, or just a quick message. You can reach me at ashotglassofrecovery@gmail.com. I'd love to hear from you. Thanks for listening and being part of this journey with me. You're not alone. Keep taking those steps towards the light. Together, we've got this.
